Project Overview
Briggsmore Avenue/Carpenter Road interchange is located in the City of Modesto and, serves nearby businesses residents, and provides access for students to the nearby Modesto Junior College. Currently, the interchange lacks dedicated facilities for bicyclists and has limited facilities for pedestrians and access to transit. The Briggsmore/Carpenter interchange experiences the highest volumes of traffic in Modesto as a result of multiple primary roadways being funneled to a single freeway and railroad crossing. This leads to a bottleneck effect and traffic congestion at and around the interchange, which presents significant safety and access concerns.
The project approach is to:
-
Improve the local roadway network configuration to redistribute traffic from the interchange
-
Improve local access to destinations in and around the project area and to regional destinations via bus and rail transit
-
Encourage active transportation through the development of low-stress, separated shared-use paths

Enhanced safety for all
The Briggsmore/Carpenter Interchange Improvements Project will offer multiple benefits to the Modesto community and its surrounding areas, including:

Improved access for all modes of travel to and from various destinations
Community Benefits

Access to local and regional transit

Separated shared use paths for the active transportation community

Improved movement of people and goods to support economic opportuntiy in Modesto

Less Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) and improved air quality
